Everything you need to know about JHCOOL evaporative air coolers
An evaporative air cooler draws hot, dry air through water-soaked cooling pads. As the air passes through the pads, water evaporates and absorbs heat, lowering the air temperature by 6–12°C. The cooled air is then circulated into the space by a fan. Unlike air conditioners, evaporative coolers require fresh air ventilation and work best in dry, hot climates.
Evaporative coolers use water evaporation to cool air, consuming up to 80% less electricity than traditional AC. They add moisture to the air rather than removing it, require no refrigerant, and have a much lower carbon footprint. However, they are most effective in dry climates (relative humidity below 60%). Traditional AC works in all climates but uses significantly more energy and requires sealed spaces.
JHCOOL evaporative coolers consume between 0.1 kW and 2.2 kW depending on the model and fan speed, compared to 3–15 kW for equivalent-capacity traditional AC units. The inverter models further reduce consumption by 30–50% at partial loads. This makes them an ideal solution for large-space cooling with significantly lower operating costs.
Coverage depends on the model and airflow. JHCOOL household models (8,000 m³/h) cover approximately 50–70 m², commercial models (18,000–22,000 m³/h) cover 100–150 m², and industrial models (30,000–50,000 m³/h) cover 200–350 m². Actual coverage varies based on ceiling height, ambient temperature, and ventilation layout.
Key factors include: (1) Space volume — multiply floor area by ceiling height; (2) Ambient humidity — evaporative cooling is most effective below 60% RH; (3) Ventilation plan — coolers need open doors or windows for air exhaust; (4) Power supply — check voltage and phase requirements. JHCOOL uses high-quality cellulose or PP cooling pads with a typical lifespan of 3–5 years depending on water quality and usage. In hard-water areas, we recommend descaling the pads every 2–3 months and replacing them every 2–3 years. Regular pad inspection and water tank cleaning help maintain optimal cooling performance.
Evaporative cooling is most effective in dry climates (relative humidity below 60%). In humid climates, the cooling effect is reduced because the air is already saturated with moisture. However, JHCOOL coolers still provide significant air circulation and ventilation benefits in moderate humidity, and work very well during dry summer periods even in coastal regions.
